OREANDA-NEWS. On 21 July 2009 was announced, that as part of Roundtable, the MICEX Group and ROSNANO had presented their joint project, the Market for Innovations and Investments, to representatives of leading private equity funds, venture funds and banks*.

In his welcoming speech, ROSNANO’s CEO Anatoly Chubais expressed his hope that “this floor will make an important contribution to the creation of a favourable environment that will attract investments to the innovation sector of the Russian economy”. President of the MICEX Konstantin Korischenko greeted participants in the Roundtable and noted that “the main goal of the Market is to help companies obtain financing using exchange mechanisms, which includes holding private placements aimed at funds and qualified investors”.

ROSNANO’s Managing Director Dionis Gordin and Vice-President of the MICEX Gennadii Margolit also gave their talks at the Roundtable. The latter noted that “the Market for Innovations and Investments is based on a solid foundation, the Sector for Innovation and Growth Companies, operating since 2007. The Market for Innovations and Investments is better adapted to the current economic situation and the needs of innovation companies-issuers. We hope that with time, it will bring to the exchange large numbers new stocks”.

Director for Strategy and Development of Energomera Concern Andrew Komkov and Director for Research of UniScan Company Andrey Bryzgalov presented their companies as potential issuers in the new sector. At the panel discussion, professional market participants discussed the stock exchange’s possibilities of attracting investments to innovation companies.

Director for Strategic Development of Intel Corporation Yuri Frantsuzov expressed his interest in the emergence of this sector: “Today, the creation of a new floor giving investors more opportunities is as important as the initial attraction of investments. There are few such ways to exit high-tech Russian companies, and some investments have already come to their deadline”.

* The new exchange sector, the Market for Investments and Innovations, is based on the Sector for Innovation and Growth Companies (IGC) operating on the MICEX Stock Exchange since 2007. New sector has been created with the goal of promoting investments primarily in small- and mid-cap companies and companies from the innovation sector of the Russian economy.

Anatoly Chubais is the head of the Coordinating Board of the Market for Innovations and Investments on the MICEX. Vice-President of the MICEX Gennadii Margolit is the Executive Secretary of the Coordinating Board.

The new sector will operate three main segments designed for companies with varying degrees of maturity and market capitalization and different types of investors:

The IGC Sector, which has been successfully operating on the MICEX Stock Exchange since 2007 and helps fast growing innovation companies to make their IPOs and hold secondary trading in all major modes of the MICEX.

The floor for private placements. Unlike the IGC Sector, the main emphasis will be made not on IPOs or a liquid secondary market but on the possibility of private placements, taking advantage of exchange technologies and listing. Secondary trading will be held among qualified investors in the framework of trading technologies focusing on trading in large blocks of shares.

The Placement and Trading Sector for non-public companies (information board), which helps to attract financing for young and growing companies that are not yet ready to go public.
