OREANDA-NEWS. October 27, 2009. MegaFon announce launch of 3G network commercial operation throughout the whole Chechen Republic.

MegaFon invested RUR 500 mln. in 3G network in the Chechen Republic. 116 new 3G base stations have been launched in the republic. They provide high-quality coverage of major residential areas including Grozny, Argun, Gudermes, Urus-Martan, Novy Benoy, Alkhan-Churt, Pervomaiskaya, Khankala, Aldy, Centeroy. Maximum data transmission rate in the new generation network is 3.6 Mbps.

 “After roll-out in the Republic in 2004, MegaFon was the first and, for a great while, the only mobile operator there. We were overcoming difficulties to provide our subscribers with modern means of communication, which are still performing an important social function”, said Victor Tambovtsev, Regional Division Director for Stavropol and North Caucasus Republics of MegaFon’s Kavkaz Branch. “We are happy that today we are able to remain leaders in the Chechen Republic, partly due to development of 3G. The new technology will allow expanding functionality of mobile communication for our subscribers who face low quality of wire-line Internet because of external circumstances”.

It will be the third region in the South Federal District, besides Dagestan and Sochi, where we are launching 3G network”, said Viktor Karpishkin, Chief Commercial Officer of MegaFon’s Kavkaz Branch. “The company has upgraded the existing mobile network, and has built new sites. According to the announced plans we will launch the network for commercial operation by the indicated deadlines, and we are sure that MegaFon subscribers will appreciate 3G opportunities. 3G makes the use of e-mails and file applications more convenient and quicker, increases downloading speed and reproduction quality of multimedia content that mobile users need for their work, studies and entertainment.”

In MegaFon’s Sales and Customer Care Centres in Chechnya the company’s subscribers can choose a USB-modem and a most appropriate tariff for Internet – “MegaFon-Modem” or “MegaFon-Modem Plus” with discounted rating for Internet traffic. Through use of this package (tariff + modem) the access to broadband Internet and high-speed data transfer in 3G network will be not only convenient but also cost-efficient. For instance, adding an option “Internet Wholesale”, the subscribers of MegaFon-Modem can use mobile Internet via a wireless modem – from 90 kopecks per 1 MB.
