OREANDA-NEWS. October 28, 2009. In Almaty KEGOC JSC held public consultations regarding Environmental Project Management Plan under “Construction of 500 kV Alma SS connected to Kazakhstan NPG via 500 kV, 220 kV lines”.

The representatives of Nongovernmental Organizations, Mass Media, Akimat of Almaty oblast, state inspection of Balkhash – Alakolskiy Environmental Department, executive bodies of Iliiskiy, Zhambylskiy and Talgarskiy regions of Almaty oblast and Moiynkumskiy region of Zhambyl oblast took part in the public consultations. The representatives of the structural divisions of KEGOC JSC performed the presentation of the projects.

The project objective is to improve security of the consumers’ power supply of Almaty power system.

The consultations regarding the given project are held in compliance with the operating requirements of the World Bank.

The project includes construction of 500 kV OHTL Alma SS – Almaty SS with the length of 63.2 km, 500 kV OHTL Alma SS – YuKGRES SS with the length of 319 km, 220 kV OHTL Alma SS – Kensai SS with the length of 47.3 km, cross connections of 220 kV OHTL CHPP -3 – Robot SS with the length of 3.2 km and 2.9 km, cross connections of 220 kV OHTL CHPP-3 – Shelek SS with the length of 23.3 km and 26.5 km.

Environmental protection measures, applied in the course of construction of 500 and 220 kV OHTLs and construction and extension (reconstruction) of the substations, minimize environmental impact.

Project cost of “Construction of 500 kV Alma SS connected to Kazakhstan NPG via 500 kV, 220 kV lines” makes KZT 30 bln, construction time is 2009-2014. Financing is planned to be implemented by means of raising loan of the World Bank and own funds of KEGOC JSC. The World Bank carried out an independent estimation according to which the project was recognized as complying with the environmental policy of the financial institution. The project was assigned with “B” category on account of limits and duration of some potential impacts on environment.
