OREANDA-NEWS. May 04, 2010. DTEK, Ukraine’s leading fuel and energy company, today announces its performance results for the first quarter of 2010.
 
DTEK’s share of the total coal output from Ukraine during the quarter rose 2.6% to 26.0%, compared with the first quarter of 2009, according to statistics from the Ministry of Coal Industry of Ukraine. Vostokenergo’s share of the thermal generation market has remained consistent at 25.02%, while Dneproenergo (where DTEK has a 47.55% interest) maintained a market share of 21.67%.
 
DTEK’s power supplying companies’ purchased the equivalent of 7.4% of tradable electricity on the Wholesale electricity market.
 
Coal Production and Enrichment
 
Between 1 January and 31 March 2010, coal produced by DTEK increased by 11.0% to 4.7 m tonnes compared with the equivalent period in 2009, while thermal coal production rose by 11.2% to 4.0 m tonnes.
 
In March 2010, Pavlogradugol OJSC recorded a new coal production record, when 1,383,000. tonnes were produced. This record is the equivalent of an average daily output per breakage face of 1,270 tonnes.
 
ROM coal enrichment for the quarter rose by 7.6% to 2.7 m tonnes, with a small decrease in coal concentrate production of -2.4% due to the changed fractional composition and ash content of the coal produced.
 
Electricity Generation
 
For the first three months of 2010, Vostokenergo supplied the public company Energorynok with 4.2 billion KWh, a 14.6 % increase on the same period in 2009. The growth in electricity production is attributable to an increase in electricity consumption in Ukraine, as well as by increased efficiency of the plant at TPP Vostokenergo, which enables it to play a larger role in the thermal electricity production market.
 
TPP Dneproenergo supplied the consumers with 3.7 billion KWh of electricity in the quarter, 27.5% up on the similar period in 2009.
 
Vostokenergo’s Installed capacity Utilization Rate  (ICUR) remains the highest among Ukrainian TPPs and recorded a ICUR of 52.7% in the period – 7.2 % higher than the first quarter of 2009. Dneproenergo’s ICUR was 22.7% for the quarter, which outperforms its performance in the first quarter 2009 by 4.8%.
 
During the quarter, Vostokenergo continued to implement its complex equipment improvement programme. It completed the reconstruction Unit 1 of Zuevskaya TPP and of Unit 7 at Kurahovskaya TPP and continues to make good progress on the redevelopment of Unit 10 at Luganskaya TPP. DTEK also conducted a tender process for the third stage of the reconstruction programme, which involves the modernization of turbines and boilers of Unit 8 Kurahovskaya TPP and Unit 13 Luganskaya TPP.
 
DTEK also commenced works on the next stage of the modernization programme at unit 11, Pridneprovskaya TPP and Unit 5, Krivorozhskaya TPP.
 
Electricity Supply and Transmission
 
The amount of electricity purchased from the Wholesale Electricity Market in the quarter by DTEK’s electricity distribution companies (Service-Invest and PES-Energougol) totaled 3.4 TWh, a 17.8% increase compared with the first quarter of 2009.
 
Additionally, PES-Energougol commissioned its new 35/6 kV Budennovskaya substation, with an investment of UAH14.5m.  This investment will enable new consumers to connect to the company’s networks and address the capacity deficit in the Buddenovskiy district of Donetsk and the town of Makyeyevka, also situated in the Donetsk Region.
