OREANDA-NEWS. May 31, 2010. The standard specifies requirements for ecological and energy efficiency, resource saving, rational nature management during designing, construction and maintenance of the Olympic venues. The document is developed on the basis of the international “green” standards BREAM International and LEED.

The “green” standard represents a detailed instruction on fulfillment of the requirements, with description of suggested innovation decisions and technologies. “It contains the criteria of its effectiveness evaluation, including rules and procedure evaluation of the standard requirements compliance”, - stated Stanislav Ananyev, “SC Olympstroy” Vice-President.

According to his words, today “the first system of volunteer ecological certification is established, and it is specially adapted to the Olympic real estate, and not only traditional (apartment and office buildings, hotels) but also engineering infrastructure facilities, municipal services, and sports venues”. The system includes a list of the venues to be certified, criteria of evaluation, determination of participants, the rules and the authority of certification process.

10 Olympic venues will be certified according to international “green” standards LEED and BREAM. All other objects of real estate will be certified according to the corporate standard. As a result, innovation decisions and elements of the “green” construction will be applied to 130 venues.

“Certification according to the corporate and international standards will not only let the Russian Federation fulfill commitment, formulated in the Bid Book “Sochi-2014”, but also leave significant environmental heritage of the Olympic Games”, - pointed out S. Ananyev. The document is developed by the ecological certification and methodical support department, jointly with specialists of Moscow State University of Engineering Ecology and OJSC “Technoprom”.

Draft of the standard can be found on the official website of “SC Olympstroy”, Ecology section, it is open for discussion and offers of all interested parties.
