OREANDA-NEWS. July 12, 2010. On June, 23 Brussels hosted the second Round Table meeting in a series of events sponsored by DTEK in the framework of the company’s participation in the activities of the EU Ukraine Business Council (EUUBC) and other specialized European associations. The Round Table was dedicated to the energy efficiency issues of Ukraine, feasibility of greater integration of the country into the EU’s policy and specific projects in this sphere. It was pointed out that Ukraine has substantial potential to support the efforts of the united Europe in its struggle against climate change. The country can vastly contribute to the work of all the European countries aimed at 20% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The participants of the Round Table elaborated on the role of energy efficiency and business potential; Ukraine’s liabilities within the Energy Community, ongoing negotiations regarding the power energy and energy efficiency provisions within the framework of the Association Agreement; EU’s financial support to Ukraine for facilitation in addressing the energy efficiency issues. DTEK has also presented its relevant experience and outlined the promising projects.

The Round Tables in Brussels (the first took place in March, the next one is scheduled for October) are held under the auspices of the Permanent Representation of Ukraine to the Council of Europe and bring together businesses, representatives of governments and international associations, financial institutions to exchange opinions in order to stimulate practical energy efficiency and alternative energy projects.

The speakers were: Peter Nagy (DR RELEX, European Commission), Viacheslav Kniazhnitskiy (Ambassador at Large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine), Tore Emanuelson (Head of EIB Representative Office in Ukraine, European Investment Bank), DTEK representatives: Yuriy Ryzhenkov (Chief Operating Officer) and Kirill Ermichine (International Public Affairs Manager).
