OREANDA-NEWS. July 30, 2010. Within the framework of the Ural international exhibition and "INNOPROM" industry and innovations forum Uralmashplant and SMS Siemag (Germany) have signed a contract. As a part of the contract, SMS Siemag undertakes to deliver equipment designed for modern arc steel-melting furnace, DSP-35. The contract amount is 700 mln. rubles.

Arc steel-melting furnace is an electric furnace whereat electric-arc thermal effect is used to melt metals and other materials. The furnace designation number indicates the furnace capacity in tons.

The arc steel-melting furnace consists of operating bath (melting area), arc power controller and auxiliary mechanisms that are used for opening/closing of furnace crown, slag removing and metal pouring-out.

Once the DSP-35 arc-furnace is put into operation, Uralmashplant will remove small-size electric furnaces. This will have a significant effect on the economy of electric power. Plus, the new furnace is to meet international environmental standards, as it is equipped with state-of-art gas-purification system.

The majority shareholder of the enterprise, Gazprombank, is actively involved into the program implemented at Uralmashplant and aimed to increase the steel melt. It is planned to increase annual steel melt from 60 to 150 thousand tons just after the commissioning of the new furnace.

In addition, the enterprise plans to arrange and put into operation two units of roller differential heat treatment, to rebuild forging complex with 10 thousand-ton and 4 thousand-ton presses, and to modernize thermal and reheating furnaces.

It is planned to assign around 60% of invested capital for metallurgical facilities in all.

SMS Siemag is a part of SMS group. It is engaged into turnkey construction of the new plants, development of the equipment designed for facility modernization, etc. In 2009 the company turnover was 3,8 milliard Euros.
