OREANDA-NEWS. January 21, 2011. On the threshold of transfer for test of first tramcars series NeVa to the SUE St. Petersburg Underground the Governor of St. Petersburg V.I. Matvienko, Vice Governor-Head of the Administration M.E. Oseevsky, Vice Governor J.V. Molchanov, Chairman of the Committee on Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade E.I. Elin, Chairman of the Committee on Transport S.V. Popov and other members of St. Petersburg Administration paid a working visit today to the enterprise of the Group of Companies Vagonmash - VAGONMASH CJSC. 

NeVa project is the design and development of new underground cars of fourth generation series NeVa and construction of high-tech production of innovation type for underground trains.

Principle targets of the project are the creation of efficient and cost-effective production of new generation underground cars.  No analogues of such cars are produced in Russia and CIS countries to date.

Concept of new electric train was firstly represented at the Second St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum in September 2009.  In the results of the year NeVa was recognized as the “Best innovation project of St. Petersburg for the needs of the municipal services” and got the award of St. Petersburg Government in compliance with the City Program on innovations support.

Thus VAGONMASH CJSC with participation of Skoda Transportation s.r.o. jointly developed new rolling stock for underground with serious competitive advantages, viz.:
• Lightweight;
• asynchronous motor drive;
• energy efficiency (use of energy saving technologies) ;
• Increased lifetime;   
• Extended distance run between overhauls;
• Lower prime cost in comparison with world manufacturers’ analogues;  

The cars have excellent export potential and may be used in underground systems of Russia, CIS countries, Eastern Europe, Latin America countries without additional updates.
