OREANDA-NEWS. April 21, 2011. Renaissance Capital, the leading emerging markets investment bank, has hired Yavuz Uzay as Head of Turkish Equity Research, and commenced trading on the Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE).

Mr. Uzay will drive the roll-out of a best-in-class Turkish research product, rounding out Renaissance’s offering of global emerging markets research. He joins Renaissance Capital from Goldman Sachs, in London, where he was executive director in the EMEA Fundamental Strategies Group. Prior to that, he worked at Credit Suisse Securities in London as director, EMEA Equity Research.

David Nangle, Head of Equity Research at Renaissance Capital, says, “The addition of Yavuz to our leading emerging markets research franchise is an exciting expansion of our team. Yavuz’s experience and knowledge of Turkey and the broader EMEA region will further enhance our cross-border research capabilities in Russia, the CIS, Asia and Africa.”

The hire of Mr. Uzay complements Renaissance Capital’s broader strategy in Turkey, and the Middle East and North Africa sphere, which includes the Firm’s commencement of trading on the ISE. Renaissance Capital is a member of 23 stock exchanges globally. In Turkey, the Firm trades through locally authorised brokers.

“Renaissance Capital is pleased to begin trading on the Istanbul Stock Exchange,” says Yonatan Gozdanker, Global Head of Cash Equities. “The ability to offer our clients trading in one of the fastest growing economies in the EMEA space further grows the emerging market footprint of Renaissance Capital.”

After Russia and South Africa, Turkey is the most sought-after emerging market among debt and equity investors focusing on Europe, the Middle East and Africa. With GDP of USD 730bn in 2010, it is the world’s 17th-largest economy.
