The economic forum was held in the conference hall of the Ministry of Textile Industry of Turkmenistan within the framework of the International Exhibition on the Achievements of the Textile Industry of Turkmenistan during the Years of Independence and the Prospects for Development. It brought together leading national and foreign specialists, businessmen and private producers from Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Turkey, the Republic of Korea and other countries. Teachers and students of higher educational institutions from Ashgabat were invited to attend the opening ceremony.

The reports presented at the forum focused on priority vectors of development of the national textile industry and prospects of mutually beneficial cooperation in the implementation of its huge potential. Abundant resources, establishment of high tech industries and application of innovation, compliance with international quality and environmental standards underpinned the intense interest of foreign companies in expanding business partnership with Turkmenistan in different sectors of the textile industry.

It was noted that a high demand in cotton fibre, natural fabrics and other textile products stipulated for the key role of this industry in the export potential of the country. Over 70% of textile goods produced in Turkmenistan are exported to the United States, Canada, Germany, UK, Italy, Turkey, China, Russia and Ukraine. The continuingly increasing rating of Turkmen goods that compete with the commodities produced by world’s leading manufacturers places Turkmenistan among world’s leading textile exporters.

The forum agenda included the issues of technological modernization of textile enterprises, enhancement of the export potential of the processing industry and use of advanced international practices and scientific advanced in this sector.

The presentations made by foreign partners focused on the possibilities to construct new complete cycle enterprises with the manufacturing process starting from cotton processing to manufacture of finished products, introduction of highly effective and environmentally friendly technologies, optimization of maintenance service and marketing research.

The presentations of state-of-the-art textile equipment manufactured by the Italian companies including Marzoli and Savio, the German companies including Schlafhorst, Truetzschler, Oerlikon and Rieter, the world’s leaders in the spinning and weaving industry focused on the prospects for expanding mutually beneficial long-term cooperation.

The Demtex Turkmenistan Service Centre consisting of over 10 companies from Germany, Switzerland and Belgium and the service center of Italian companies have become an effective channel to supply state-of-the-art equipment and spare parts as well as provide maintenance and electronic services to textile enterprises of Turkmenistan. This vector of cooperation is successfully continued. Rieter has recently opened the service center in Ashgabat that will provide maintenance service to cotton spinning factories in the country.

The representatives of the manufacturers such as Their and Volkmann (Germany), Piranol (Belgium) and Korean companies Huvis and Hyosung, our potential partners, who are exploring the Turkmen market and present mutually beneficial projects of mutual interest, made presentations of state-of-the-art textile equipment and technologies for dyeing all types of yarn and fabrics and innovative technologies for manufacturing woven materials, including sportswear fabrics. In this context the proposals to establish collaboration in training specialists and apply technologies in industry that would offer a new impetus to develop the sector were put forward during the forum.

The economic forum in Ashgabat opened up new vast opportunities to build mutually beneficial business partnerships that could guarantee further innovative development of the national textile industry as well as further successful integration of our country in global economic system.
