OREANDA-NEWS. August 11, 2011. In a landmark move, North Delhi Power (NDPL), a Tata Power and Government of Delhi joint venture company, which distributes electricity in North & North West Delhi, on August 9, 2011, announced a unique appliance exchange scheme for its registered consumers. The scheme, in association with leading appliance manufacturers such as LG, Voltas and Godrej, offers NDPL consumers star-rated air conditioners and refrigerators, as approved by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), in exchange for old, inefficient appliances, at a discounted rate.

The scheme is valid till October 31, 2011, at selected outlets of LG, Voltas and Godrej in North & North West Delhi. The NDPL consumers need to show a copy of their latest electricity bill in order to avail of the scheme. The details of the participating outlets are available on the NDPL website www.ndpl.com or interested consumers can contact the nearest NDPL consumer care centres.

“Energy conservation needs urgent attention across the world at all levels from various quarters. The star-rated energy-efficient appliances, as approved by BEE, help to save energy and we are confident that our consumers will not only benefit from this scheme but also actively contribute in combating climate change by opting for energy-efficient appliances,” said an NDPL spokesperson.

NDPL has undertaken a concerted effort towards creating awareness about energy conservation and for combating climate change through various initiatives. Apart from grass root awareness through a cycle rally and a walkathon, NDPL had also partnered with World Wide Fund (WWF) for Earth Hour in support of their global awareness initiative on climate change, and again with Teri for a climate change quiz competition for awareness amongst schoolchildren.

NDPL has also been aggressively creating energy conservation awareness though its Energy Club programmes comprising students from over 50 member schools who have in turn sensitised close to six lakh people till date. As part of a larger move of escalating its ongoing energy conservation programme, NDPL is also sensitive to the aspect of climate change and is committed to introduce energy-efficient and ‘greener’ technologies. NDPL has also set up solar power plants in its network ranging from 25KW to 1MW. The 1MW solar plant set up by NDPL is the largest solar plant in India within city limits. NDPL also actively promotes the use of electric cars and electric scooters for its field staff for maintenance and operations activities.
