OREANDA-NEWS. October 24, 2011. Russia and France held a joint conference on transport security in Moscow, reported the press-centre of RZD.

The conference brought together managers from Russian Railways and the French national railway company SNCF and representatives from the Duma’s Transportation Committee and Russia’s Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Emergency Situations, as well as from the National Gendarmerie in France and the security and customs services of the two countries.

The participants discussed government policy and regulation in the field of transport security and exchanged their experience in antiterrorist work and rescue operations on transport facilities and infrastructure, including, in particular, under the difficult conditions prevailing in transport tunnels. They also reviewed modern methods of screening passengers and baggage.
In addition, the conference also analysed the current situation regarding transport and developed optimal responses to security threats.

Russian Railways and law enforcement authorities devote a great deal of attention to ensuring security where considerable numbers of the public gather, particularly railway stations.In 2011-2013, Russian Railways plans to allocate 1.9 billion roubles to the purchase of technical security equipment and systems in order to protect the most important public facilities as part of the Company’s investment programme on its project "Transport Security".

Russian Railways spends over 12 billion roubles annually to ensure passenger safety and security and protect more than 5,000 of the most important transport facilities.

So far, capital investments on the part of Russian Railways have enabled the Company to equip 1,256 objects with security systems. Between 2002 and 2010, the Company invested about 4.5 billion roubles on such security systems.
