OREANDA-NEWS. December 19, 2011. Ukraine and Belarus intend to jointly develop water transportation. This was announced by the First vice Prime Minister - Minister of Economic Development and Trade Andriy Klyuyev at the end of the Twentieth session of the Intergovernmental Belarusian-Ukrainian joint commission on trade and economic cooperation, which passed in Kyiv.

Andriy Klyuyev said that water transport is more environmentally friendly and cheaper to operate and has lower fares for transportation than other modes of transport.

"It's cheap, convenient transportation. Therefore, this industry in cooperation with the Belarusian side, we will actively develop. Today, it is given practical help in addressing issues of water connection between the Republic of Belarus and Ukraine," Andriy Klyuyev noted. He added that today's there the reconstruction of waterworks Dnipro basin is on full capacity.

Both sides agreed that Ukraine is based on the areas and volumes of freight of the Belarusian side with usage of the Ukrainian domestic water resources, would consider the problem on the need to create control points in Kyiv river port.
