OREANDA-NEWS. December 23, 2011.  On the 21st of December 2011 Director General of ROSATOM Sergey Kirienko and Chairman of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission Bernard Bigot held a video conference on outcomes of the second meeting of the Coordinating Committee for implementation of the Agreement between ROSATOM and the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission concerning the cooperation in the field of the peaceful use of atomic energy, which had been held on December 8.

The Coordinating Committee Co-chairmen – Deputy Director General of ROSATOM V.A. Pershukov and Director of Department for International Cooperation of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission F. Mondoloni – reported on results of the Committee’s activities and plans for 2012.

Summarizing the session, S. Kirienko and B. Bigot were positive on the dynamics of the Russian-French interaction in 2011 and set tasks for the future. In particular, a priority will be given to the “fast subject” [fast neutron reactors] with potential joint project of development of a new generation sodium-cooled fast neutron reactor.

The parties have also agreed to continue their work in the following areas: crisis management, nuclear safety of reactors, decommissioning of radiation-hazardous facilities, nuclear material control and accounting, public opinion and information, and nuclear power development strategy.
