Maithon Power Enters into Agreement with Marshal Corporation
OREANDA-NEWS. August 29, 2012. Maithon Power (MPL), a 74:26 joint venture between Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation, has entered into a comprehensive ash utilisation programme agreement through an MoU with Marshal Corporation (MCL). MCL is a renowned domain expert and is engaged with Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation and West Bengal Power Development Corporation for ash evacuation, transportation, export and other modes of utilisation since 1972. MPL has recently commissioned its two coal-fired units of 525 MW at Maithon in Jharkhand.
The MoU between MPL and MCL was signed on August 22, 2012, at Maithon power station. Salient features of the MoU are as follows:
MCL will set-up the ash utilisation system on build-own-operate basis.
MCL to enter into tie-ups with large cement companies for consumption of ash generated at MPL.
The following units to be set up under the package:
Classifier for separating fine ash particles from coarse granules.
Ash bagging systems, day storage silos and accessories.
Ash brick and paver plant.
The initial capacity of ash consumption would be 500 tonnes / day, which would be scaled up to 1,500 tonnes / day within three months.
Speaking on the initiative, Bhaskar Sarkar, CEO, MPL, said, “MPL is committed to sustainability and environment conservation. The MoU with MCL will ensure comprehensive utilisation of ash including facilitating value-added cement components like brick and paver block making arrangements. Further, through this initiative, MPL would be generating employment opportunities for the community residing around its area of operation. This is going to be a scalable and replicable model, to be followed elsewhere in Tata Power.”
As part of the MoU, the company would be engaging workmen from the communities around its area of operation, thus creating livelihood for them through this initiative.
