OREANDA-NEWS. September 11, 2012. DTEK in liaison with the twenty world’s largest energy companies started Energy for Society, a global initiative for development of the five basic principles for cooperation between the energy business and the society:

•         Secure & affordable access to energy
•         Efficient energy systems
•         Responsible citizenship
•         Contributing to economic development
•         Promoting energy literacy

DTEK actively participated in development of the principles. The company’s CEO, Maxim Timchenko, became one of the founding signatories of this initiative on behalf of DTEK in line with the CEOs of such energy industry leaders as RWE, BP, Shell, Nexen, Mitsubishi, Gasprom Oil, etc. World Economic Forum provides online access to the collection of the best practices of the leaders in the socially responsible energy business with a range of case studies provided by DTEK.

The Energy for Society initiative is open to all world leading companies. Participants in the new global initiative commit to implement its elements into their corporate standards and communicate the key principles to other sector players.

The key principles of interaction between the energy industry community and society were presented on 11 September 2012 during the annual World Economic Forum in Tianjin, People’s Republic of China, informally known as the Summer Davos. DTEK was represented by its Chief Operating Officer Yuriy Ryzhenkov.

“The sustainability of our business directly depends on the perception of our company by local communities and well-being of such communities”, said Yuriy Ryzhenkov. “DTEK understands that the energy industry is one of the key facilitators in a social dialogue between businesses, government, and society. We strive to contribute to the future of the Ukrainian and global energy sector acting as a responsible and environmentally aware corporate partner. The safety and well-being of our employees, their families and residents of the regions in which we operate are already now the cornerstones of our strategic business model”.
