During the 2012 China Iron & Steel Industry Science and Technology Conference in Beijing on Nov. 9th, project named < Development and Industrialization of Low Temperature High Magnetic Induction Grain-oriented Silicon Steel Manufacturing Technology> which is independently researched and developed by Baosteel has won the only grand prize of China Metallurgical Science and Technology Prize. And it is another time since Baosteel won such prize last year by Research and Development on High Speed Pickling Line Ultrathin Strip Technology and Complete Set of Equipment, reported the press-centre of Baosteel.

Over more than 10 years, Baosteel has eliminated the oversea technology lock-in and is insisting on independent innovation through exploration and practice step by step. Finally, Baosteel produced the low temperature high magnetic induction grain-oriented silicon steel which represents the highest technological level in recent world Iron & Steel industry successfully in 2008, achieving the production with stability, batch and reasonable cost as well.

In May, 2011, the first 500KV/840,000KVA high voltage transformer with Baosteel low temperature high magnetic induction grain-oriented silicon steel was applied successfully in Three Gorges underground power station. Since now, the number of high voltage transformers (voltage level >500KV) used baosteel high-grade silicon steel has reached to 222. Moreover, part of them have been put in use, and they all run stably with technical performance completely meeting customers ’demands, rivaling similar products in the world. Baosteel grain-oriented silicon steel has also passed certifications of world famous companies such as ABB, Alstom, Siemens and exported the products to more than 20 countries and regions including Japan, Korea, German, U.S.A and Italy.

Baosteel Development and Industrialization of Low Temperature High Magnetic Induction Grain-oriented Silicon Steel Manufacturing Technology has not only broken the monopoly of foreign technology, realizing the product localization, but also gained a series of original technical achievements. Recently, Baosteel has realized the full grade coverage of grain-oriented silicon steel, 10 grades among which has also covered the domestic market blank. The project has formed a comprehensive independent IPR system, applying for 29 patents for an invention, 47 utility model patents and 405 technical secrets.

At the beginning of this year, the accreditation board consisted by domestic famous specialists met an agreement via assessment and identification on project that such project has made China grain-oriented silicon steel technology and products arrive world leading level, changing the situation of China's long time dependence on import for high grade grain-oriented silicon steel. The grain-oriented silicon steel production line independently formed by Baosteel has realized the modularization, high efficient, high accuracy and environmental protection, each technical index of which has met the world leading level. Such project is one outstanding technical breakthrough in China metallurgic industry in recent years with significance of huge economics, social benefit and demonstration.

The production of Baosteel low temperature high magnetic induction grain-oriented silicon steel has realized the batch production, import replacement, which is beneficial for the domestic downstream manufacturer to reduce production cost, satisfying the requirements of national key projects and supporting the national resource strategy powerfully.
