OREANDA-NEWS. June 26, 2013. Partner Allar Joks will be in Turkmenistan as a representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The visit is aimed at counselling the National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan (TNIDHR).

The purpose of the visit is to evaluate the TNIDHR complaints-handling system and recommend improvements. Allar Joks will also facilitate a workshop for TNIDHR staff and officials from the Turkmenistan Ministry of Justice.

According to Allar Joks, human rights and democracy in the Turkmenistan context would offer a serious challenge to any counsel: “I thank SORAINEN for the opportunity to participate in missions where my experience as Chancellor of Justice can be put to use. I do believe in the importance of each small step for the advancement of human rights.”

After his term as Chancellor of Justice of Estonia ended in 2008, Allar Joks has also undertaken missions to Georgia, Tajikistan, Moldova, Uzbekistan and the Ukraine as a UNDP representative to counsel the ombudsmen of those countries.
