OREANDA-NEWS. December 03, 2013. Spearheaded by the International Platinum Group Metals Association Norilsk Nickel Africa (Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa) hosted a meeting of heads of security services of leading PGM producers: Anglo American Platinum Ltd., Impala Platinum Ltd., Lonmin Plc., Royal Bafokeng Platinum. The meeting was chaired by Vladislav Gasumyanov, Director of MMC Norilsk Nickel Corporate Security Directorate – Head of the Security Unit, who serves as the chairman of the IPA Security Committee.

In addition to representatives of IPA SC members the meeting was attended by South African National Police Service chiefs and the head of the Anglo Research analytic laboratory (Anglo American Platinum).

The agenda covered combating the illicit precious metal trade, security of the producers and enforcing security of the supply chain. Attendees exchanged their experiences in creating a joint industrial database of “risk products” and improving scientific programs used to identify the origin of PGM-bearing products.

IPA SC members specifically discussed developments in international cooperation including avenues for potential cooperation within the framework of the Russia- South Africa PGM Workgroup formed by the respective governments and the UN resolution on Fighting International Organized Crime and Potential Links to Illegal Precious Metal Trade.
