Wizz Air Implements New Guidelines to Allow Use of PEDs on Board
OREANDA-NEWS. Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe*, today announced that passengers are now allowed to use Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) such as mobile phones, electronic readers and tablet computers, on all Wizz Air flights. The new guidelines for the use of PEDs on board aircraft have been issued by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and adopted by the Hungarian Civil Aviation Authority. In conformity with these new guidelines Wizz Air now allows the use of such devices when operated in flight mode during any phase of the flight.
Passengers are asked to remove headphones during the safety announcements of the cabin crew and switch off electronic devices when the crew cannot confirm that these are operating in flight mode and match the criteria for usage during the flight. Larger electronic devices which could lead to injuries, such as laptops, will need to be stored for take-off and landing.
Wizz Air’s Daniel de Carvalho said: “Portable electronic devices such as eBook readers, tablets or smartphones are now a firm part of our everydays live and new guidelines for the use of these devices when flying have been issued by EASA and adopted by the Hungarian CAA. We are very pleased to now allow our over 13 million yearly passengers to use their electronic gadgets when flying Wizz Air. According to the new guidelines passengers must ensure that their devices operate in flight mode once aircraft doors are closed and until they disembark. We encourage passengers to bring their favourite gadgets and read a book or watch a movie when flying on our low fares, while our crew takes good care of them and carries them to their destination.”
