OREANDA-NEWS. JSC RusHydro (ticker symbol: MOEX, LSE: HYDR; OTCQX: RSHYY) announces that its subsidiary RAO Energy Systems of East has completed development of project documentation for core objects of Sakhalinskaya thermal power plant (TPP) No. 2. The documentation has been submitted for government assessment and independent audit. It is planned to complete the full cycle of approvals in the middle of the second quarter this year.

The project includes the construction of the power plant with combined electric capacity of 360 MW and thermal capacity of 15 Gcal/h in three stages. The first stage with electric capacity of 120 MW and thermal capacity of 15 Gcal/h is expected to be commissioned in the end of 2016. Planned annual output is 840 GWh. The plant will use coal from local Sakhalin mines.

In order to preserve ecological system of the Strait of Tartary, subsurface water to be provided by specially drilled wells will be used for cooling instead of sea water.

Chimneys of the plant will be 150 meters high in order to enable adequate dissipation of exhaust gases in atmosphere in order to minimize environmental impact. For comparison: chimneys of existing Sakhalin TPP are less than 100 meters high.

In order to reduce exhaust of hard particles, electric precipitator will be provided, capable of capturing 99.6% of hard cinder particles. All coal reloading bunkers will be equipped with water spraying systems for suppression of dust. All buildings will be capable of withstanding a 9.0 magnitude earthquake.

Sakhalinskaya TPP No.2 is one of four new projects in the Far East of Russia implemented by RusHydro. The Company's investment program also includes construction of heat and power plant in Sovetskaya Gavan' (Khabarovsk region), the Yakutskaya power plant No.2 (the 1st stage) and the Blagoveschenskaya power plant No.2 (the 2nd stage).

The project will be developed by CJSC Sakhalinskaya TPP No.2, a 100% subsidiary of RusHydro. Comprehensive management of all RusHydro's subsidiaries incorporated specifically for construction of projects in the Far East will be implemented by RAO ES of the East. Teploelectroproject acts as general designer. Independent technical and price audit is being implements by engineering company EF Engineering, selected by Sberbank through a tender.
