OREANDA-NEWS. SSE plc today (1 October) agreed the sale of its Hampshire data centre to SCC, for a total consideration estimated to be £12 million, subject to capital adjustment and provision of transition services for a period of three months.

The facility was operated by SSE Enterprise Telecoms - which owns and operates a UK-wide high performance, high availability fibre optic network, providing leading edge carrier ethernet, internet and optical networking services to organisations whose businesses are critically dependent on digital communication. The disposal allows SSE Enterprise Telecoms to focus on this fast growing networking business.

The sale is part of SSE's broader value programme of planned disposals announced in its Notification of Close Period Statement on 26 March.

SCC is Europe's largest independent IT group. It has been involved in planning, supplying, integrating and managing IT on behalf of leading businesses across Europe for 40 years. A small number of employees will TUPE transfer to SCC as part of the disposal.

Gregor Alexander, Finance Director of SSE plc, said: “SSE plc is continuing its business simplification programme, which will secure proceeds and debt reduction estimated to total around £1bn and ensure SSE plc's resources are fully focused on its core purpose of providing the energy people need in a reliable and sustainable way.”
