OREANDA-NEWS. Miami International Airport, which already ranks among America's busiest passenger and cargo gateways, is also one of the nation's top airports for on-time performance during the winter months. A newly released study by Boston-based flight data research company Hopper ranked MIA second for on-time performance among America's top 20 airports for winter travel.

Hopper identified America's 20 most popular airports for winter travel by analyzing current flight search data, which captures billions of trip searches per day. Those findings were compared with airport delay data from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics to create the top 20 list. Only Honolulu International Airport performed better than MIA in the study, and while both airports enjoy mild weather during the winter, their operations can nonetheless be negatively affected by winter weather delays in other cities. Despite those adverse conditions, MIA's on-time flight performance still ranked well ahead of the four other Florida airports that made the list and enjoy the same favorable winter weather.

"Miami is a prime winter getaway spot, and MIA is committed to making the journey just as enjoyable as the destination for our visitors," said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. Gonzalez. "We work hard - along with our federal and airline partners - to keep flights running smoothly and on time regardless of what the weather may be up north."
