OREANDA-NEWS. During the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) a meeting of the Employment Committee of the EU Council (EMCO) will be held in Riga on 4-5 February.

During the meeting it is planned to review proposals for the draft Council conclusions regarding the Annual Growth Survey and inclusive labour markets. The discussion of the Joint Employment Report is also on the agenda.

A presentation regarding the EU labour mobility issues will be provided by the Director of the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound) Juan Men?ndez-Vald?s. A representative of the World Bank Emily Sinnott will present information about the active ageing issues and the progress in the implementation of the project of comprehensive active ageing strategy carried out in Latvia. Representatives of the European Economic Area (EEA) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) will brief about the general situation in the EEA-EFTA countries and the active ageing situation in Norway.

The meeting will be attended by representatives of all the EU Member States, representatives of EEA-EFTA and representatives from the European Commission and Council General Secretariat, as well as experts.

The Employment Committee is a committee provided for in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. Its primary role is acting as an advisory committee for Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council of the European Union on the issues related to the area of labour markets and employment.
