OREANDA-NEWS. The Basic Financial Literacy study pack prepared under the Bank of Russia's initiative is to be issued by Prosveshchenie publishing house this year.

The agreement with the authors allows Prosveshchenie publishing house not only to publish the study pack, but also to issue it electronically. 'The Central Bank of the Russian Federation carries out an important work to consistently improve households' financial literacy', believes Mikhail Kozhevnikov, the managing director of Prosveshchenie publishing house. 'In fact, our publishing house is the first textbook publisher to issue financial literacy study pack much needed by the today's schoolchildren who are about to start their independent life as adults and professional activity'.

The pack includes a teacher's book, a student's book and teaching guidelines. It has been preliminary examined by the Russian Academy of Education. In particular, the expert opinion submitted to the Bank of Russia notes that the study pack can be used in the comprehensive secondary education programme (10-11th forms). The Ministry of Science and Education of the Russian Federation approved the use of the study pack in Bank of Russia colleges in the forthcoming 2016/2017 school year.

At the same time, Bank of Russia specialists and the authors of Prosveshchenie publishing house fine-tune the series of social science textbooks issued by the publishing house in order to supplement them with basic financial literacy modules.

The currently pressing issue is the problem of improving teaching competence of the new course teachers. For this purpose the Academy of Professional Development and Re-training of Educators under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation has arranged specialist courses, the programme of which was developed with the participation of Bank of Russia specialists. Late March will see the first graduates - 80 teachers and tutors from 27 Russian regions will receive professional development diplomas certifying the right to teach educators of comprehensive schools the methodology for teaching the new discipline. Tutors will also receive eductional materials including the study pack. Classes for the second group of tutors are to start on 18 April.
