OREANDA-NEWS.  The Turkish Atomic Energy Authority (TAEK, regulatory agency of the Republic of Turkey) has approved the design parameters of the Akkuyu NPP’ site, that is constructed in Mersin Province in the south of the country. AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC, which is the subsidiary of Rusatom Energy International (part of State Corporation Rosatom), is responsible for the project implementation.

The parameters were studied, validated and submitted to TAEK in the form of the Site Parameters Report (SPR) of the Akkuyu NPP Construction Project. Approval of the parameters of the Akkuyu NPP’ site is a compulsory prerequisite for review of the AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC’s application documentation by TAEK’s departments in order to get a construction license for Akkuyu NPP. The final SPR’s version consists of 13 Sections and has a total over 6 thousand pages.

The initial version of the SPR, which numbered around 800 pages, was sent to the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority in November 2014. Then the specialists of TAEK and AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC were jointly working verifying the site parameters of the first Turkish nuclear power plant. On the initiative of the Turkish regulatory agency, information has been expanded, issues related to seismicity, hydrogeology, karst cavities and other natural phenomena able to occur in the area of the NPP, in Mersin province, in the south of the country, have been clarified. Leading research and educational institutions of the Republic of Turkey have been involved in the process, among them: Bosphorus University, Middle East Technical University, Mediterranean University as well as Turkish experienced engineering companies: Envi Energy ve Chevre Yatyrymlary, Toker Sondag ve Inshaat Mukhendislik Mushavirlik. The accomplished work has resulted in preparation of the expanded version of the SPR of Akkuyu NPP, which encompasses all comments of TAEK.
