OREANDA-NEWS  The tanker Vilamoura, carrying one million barrels of oil, exploded off the coast of Libya. Bloomberg writes about this with reference to the management company TMS Tankers.

As a result of the emergency, the ship's engine room was flooded. According to the company's representative, there was no leakage of petroleum products, and the crew members were not injured. The causes of the explosion are still unknown. The tanker is currently being towed to Greece, where they plan to assess the extent of the damage.

Reuters clarifies that the explosion occurred on June 27. The vessel sailed under the flag of the Marshall Islands from the Libyan port of Zeitina and was heading for the British territory of Gibraltar in the south of the Iberian Peninsula.

Earlier, an emergency mode was introduced in Izhevsk due to a spill of petroleum products on the Starkovka River. The incident occurred near Koprov passage.
