OREANDA-NEWS  Slovakia and Hungary will continue to purchase Russian pipeline gas, despite EU plans to abandon it. Experts note the complexity of logistics for these countries and the likelihood of maintaining imports from Russia until 2027.

Slovakia and Hungary are likely to continue to purchase pipeline gas from Russia despite the European Commission's announcement of its intention to stop its purchases. The question of how the European Union will be able to force these countries to switch to more expensive imports from other sources remains unclear. This was stated by Finam analyst Sergey Kaufman in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The European Commission has submitted a draft roadmap according to which the import of Russian energy resources to EU countries will be stopped before the end of 2027. It is planned that in June a legislative proposal will be prepared to ban the import of gas under new and spot contracts from Russia, which should enter into force by the end of this year. This ban may also apply to current long-term contracts for the import of pipeline and liquefied natural gas from Russia, with implementation by the end of 2027.
