OREANDA-NEWS. The world’s first Russian floating nuclear thermal power plant was put into industrial operation on the basis of the power barge Akademik Lomonosov in Chukotka.

This was reported by the press service of the company Rosenergoatom. “On May 22, 2020, a unique, having no analogues in the world floating nuclear thermal power plant was put into industrial operation. The corresponding order was signed by the Director General of Rosenergoatom Concern JSC Andrey Petrov,” the statement says.

The power plant supplied the first electricity to the isolated network of the Chaun-Bilibino energy center of Chukotka on December 19, 2019.

“From today, the project for the construction of a floating nuclear power plant in the town of Pevek of Chukotka Autonomous Okrug can be considered successfully completed. Now it has become the 11th industrially operated nuclear power plant in Russia and the northernmost in the world,” Petrov said.
