OREANDA-NEWS  In Russia in 2023, traditional cigarettes formed the basis of the tobacco market, as before. The production of cigarettes is falling, but the demand for other tobacco products, in particular, chewing tobacco, is growing. This conclusion was made in the CRPT (the operator of the "Honest Mark" marking) on the basis of data from the state marking system.

According to the labeling system, cigarette production in the country remains stable, with an annual increase of 1%: 9.1 billion conventional packages (20 pieces) in 2023 against 9 billion packages in 2022. Cigarettes accounted for 87.7% of domestic tobacco production.

The share of heated tobacco (sticks) was 10%, its production in 2023 increased by 26%, to 1 billion conventional packages from 858 million in 2022.

The peak of production growth, as noted in the CRPT, fell on chewing tobacco. Its output more than doubled, to over 5.8 million conventional packages from 2.7 million a year earlier. Demand for cigarillos is also growing, the production of which has increased 1.9 times, to 61.5 million conventional packs from 32 million in 2022.

"The only categories of tobacco products whose production has decreased over the year are cigarettes and smoking tobacco," the CRPT reported. Thus, the production of cigarettes fell by 38%, to 4.2 million from 6.9 million conventional packages in 2022, smoking tobacco - by 8%, to 1.3 million conventional packages.

According to labeling data, the basis of the Russian tobacco and nicotine-containing products market is made up of products from domestic manufacturers - 96.6% (10.4 billion packages in 2023). Production volumes are stable, with an increase of 3% in 2023.

Labeling of tobacco products in the state system "Honest Sign" has been going on since 2019. Since March 2022, labeling codes have been applied to nicotine-containing products.

In addition to tobacco, labeling applies to dairy products, bottled water, medicines, beer and low-alcohol beverages, shoes, light industry goods, fur coats, tires, perfumes, cameras, dietary supplements, antiseptics, medical products, wheelchairs and sugary drinks.
