China has increased purchases of Russian meat

OREANDA-NEWS From January to May 2026, Russia supplied China with more than 53 thousand tons of pork, beef, as well as pork and beef by-products. This was stated by the head of the federal center "Agroexport" Ilya Ilyushin, his words are quoted by the newspaper "Vedomosti".
According to the representative of the department, China has increased purchases of Russian meat by more than 40 percent in annual terms. At the same time, the cost of supplies increased by 26 percent and amounted to about $ 156 million. More than $ 101 million accounted for the export of pork and pork offal, and the rest for meat and offal of cattle.
In physical terms, shipments of frozen pork offal amounted to 24.4 thousand tons, frozen pork — more than 20.5 thousand tons, and raw hams, shoulder blades and cuts — more than 1.5 thousand tons. Supplies of frozen boneless beef cuts — 3.7 thousand tons, other boneless cuts — 1.7 thousand tons, and offal — 1.3 thousand tons.
According to Konstantin Batanov, associate professor at the Moscow State University Graduate School of Translation, chairman of the Sunzi Strategy and Philosophy Club, and business consultant, pork traditionally accounts for about 60 percent of the meat diet of Chinese residents, and the country is the world's largest producer and consumer of pork. At the same time, many types of pork offal, such as piglets, hooves, intestines and tendons, are considered delicacies in China, while in Russia they are not in high demand.
According to UN forecasts, in the next nine years, the total volume of exports of major types of meat from Russia will increase significantly. By the end of 2035, beef exports from Russia, according to experts' expectations, will reach 38 thousand tons, pork — 146 thousand, and chicken — 350 thousand. For comparison, in 2023-2025, analysts estimated the export of these types of domestic products at 36 thousand, 127 thousand and 307 thousand tons, respectively.
