Due to new duties by US President Donald Trump, prices for game consoles will rise by 20-50 percent. This is reported by the Cryptopolitan publication.

OREANDA-NEWS  According to Ryan Reith, a specialist at International Data Corporation (IDC), the negative impact of duties will be on all imported products. Specifically, in the United States, goods imported from China will be subject to a duty of 54 percent, Vietnam — 46 percent.

Jason Miller, a professor at Michigan State University, said that the effect of the increase in duties will be noticeable closer to the summer. He believes that gadgets are unlikely to immediately rise in price by 50 percent — rather, prices will rise by 20 percent. Aubrey Quinn, a representative of the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), stressed that prices will also rise in the console market and this "will have a real and detrimental impact on the video game industry."

Analyst Daniel Ahmad, in a conversation with reporters, said that future duties were probably already included in the cost of the newly introduced Nintendo Switch 2 console. However, he believes that the price of the console in the United States could still rise from $450 to $600.

Ryan Reith said that suppliers will expand equipment inventories to avoid a sharp rise in prices. "But I would be surprised if even the most prudent producers could stretch stocks for more than two to three weeks," Reith concluded.

Earlier, an authoritative insider, Min-Chi Ko, said that Apple could raise prices for its smartphones in response to the introduction of new duties by US President Trump. The company can also pressure suppliers to reduce production costs.
