OREANDA-NEWS  Chum and sockeye salmon became the cheapest types of fish in Russia in the first half of 2026. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the All-Russian Association of Fishermen (VARPE).

It is known that in the first half of 2026, wholesale prices for chum and sockeye salmon in the Far East fell by 10 and 5 percent. "The price of chum salmon has dropped to 450 rubles per kg, and for sockeye salmon — to 750 rubles," the experts said.

German Zverev, President of VARPE, explained that salmon fishing usually begins at the end of May, and the main peak occurs in mid-July-mid-August. Therefore, in the first half of summer, the cost is high, and later it begins to adjust depending on the development of Putin.

Previously, tomatoes were included in the list of the cheapest food products in Russia. The retail price of a kilogram of these vegetables in the domestic market, according to Rosstat, decreased by an average of 27.1 percent in May.
