OREANDA-NEWS The Estonian government has approved domestic sanctions against the parent company of Yandex, the Dutch Yandex NV, writes the Estonian newspaper Postimees. Companies will ban the provision of service Yandex Go in the country. It will not be able to provide taxi services, and Yandex is also prohibited from mentioning it or providing it in an indirect way. Drivers will not be able to take and fulfill orders through the app.

Internet service providers should restrict access to Yandex NV — Yandex Go and Yandex Pro sites. Estonia also insists that Google Play and the App Store should limit app downloads and stop offering updates. The restrictions will take effect on April 11.

According to the newspaper, the reason for the restrictions is «the recent decision of Russia, according to which Yandex must transfer the personal data it collects to the special services». On March 29, the Ministry of Transport proposed to oblige taxi aggregators to transmit FSB data online.

«To use the Yandex application, you need to provide access to a large amount of personal data that is processed on the company's servers in Russia and can be used in intelligence activities against Estonia and Europe. In today's political situation, this is a serious threat to Estonia's security», said Andres Sutt, the head of the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Information Technology of Estonia.
