OREANDA-NEWS The second unmanned tram began to be prepared for launch in Moscow. This was reported in the press service of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development of the capital. The statement is transmitted by the Moscow City News Agency.
"In 2024, the first stage was successfully completed and the second stage of the launch of Russia's first unmanned tram began. The innovative transport has traveled more than 3.2 thousand kilometers through the city and has never violated the rules of the road," the department said.
It is noted that while the driver is monitoring the actions of the tram on the streets, the system controls the vehicle. However, in 2025, it is planned to transfer the tram to a fully unmanned mode in accordance with the instructions of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
"We are currently preparing to launch a second tram with similar control technologies," Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor for Transport and Industry, said in a statement.
He said that such a tram had already traveled the first kilometers through the territory of the Krasnopresnensky depot in the Strogino area. So far, the system only duplicates the actions of the driver who controls the tram. The conditions of movement at the test site are close to urban conditions.
Earlier it was reported that by 2027, the capital wants to automate the operation of more than 80 percent of trams. In addition, self-driving taxis are also operating in Moscow.
