This decision follows the statement of the Finnish state company VR Group on the suspension of freight rail links with the Russian Federation due to Western sanctions imposed against Russian Railways.

In connection with the sanctions, the Finnish railway company VR Group notified Russian Railways that it was impossible to receive freight trains, and since March 26, the shipment of goods in the direction of Finland has been stopped, the report says.

Russian Railways announced an increase in export traffic in alternative directions. Since March 16, the average daily loading to Azerbaijan and transit through Azerbaijan has increased by 20.9%, through the Naushki border crossing with Mongolia - by 11.1%, through Kazakhstan to China - by 2.2 times, to Belarus and through Belarus - almost two times. times.

The company also said that in order to expand export opportunities, they are negotiating with Chinese Railways on the additional transfer of freight trains.

Since March 27, VR has stopped the movement of freight trains towards Russia and stopped accepting freight trains from the Russian Federation. All freight wagons currently in Finland will be returned to Russia.

Earlier, VR said that they are obliged to comply with the sanctions imposed by the West.

In addition, the passenger train Allegro, which ran between Helsinki and St. Petersburg, is suspended for an indefinite period.
