OREANDA-NEWS Due to the situation on the gasoline market, demand for an alternative fuel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), increased sharply in the summer, with sales increasing by 30 percent in some places. Izvestia writes about this with reference to data from the Petromarket research group.

As follows from the material, the increased demand from car owners who already use LPG as a motor fuel, as well as convert cars to it, led, among other things, to an increase in prices from 31.65 to 35.35 rubles per liter on average in Russia, as well as up to 35-40 rubles at metropolitan gas stations.

According to the St. Petersburg Stock Exchange, the average daily volume of LPG sold on the stock exchange has increased by 24.7 percent year-on-year to 11.4 thousand tons since the beginning of summer as of July 17. Since, unlike gasoline and diesel for LPG, there is no agreement on price control between the authorities and the largest market participants, wholesale prices directly affect retail prices, reflecting the balance of supply and demand within the country, as well as the influence of foreign market indicators, said Dmitry Gusev, Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Reliable Partner Association.

According to Alexey Belogoryev, Director of Research and Development at the Institute of Energy and Finance, unlike other types of fuel, there is no shortage of LPG in Russia, but due to rail congestion, the transportation time has increased, which can lead to supply disruptions.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that 15,000 gas-powered vehicles were produced in Russia in 2025, and the state actively supports this area through subsidizing the construction of refueling infrastructure. According to him, the market share of cars powered by this type of fuel, as well as electric vehicles, will continue to grow.
