OREANDA-NEWS  Brussels has started planning actions in case of unforeseen circumstances. This is reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.

In particular, the European Commission has begun assessing the consequences of the US presidential election, with special attention being paid to the scenario in which former American President Donald Trump wins. It is assumed that Trump's coming to power may lead to new tariffs directed against the EU. In this regard, the bloc thought about retaliatory measures.

The agency's source noted that the style of the former US leader is becoming more aggressive. In his opinion, European countries should be prepared for possible developments.

During his first term, Trump increased tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum products from the European Union by 25 percent and 10 percent, respectively. In turn, the EU has imposed retaliatory tariff measures on imports of various goods from the United States. However, after Joe Biden became President of the United States, these customs tariffs were partially abolished.

Nevertheless, the article says, the European Union considers the situation unfair. It is noted that the exporters of the block pay more than $ 350 million a year in duties.
