OREANDA-NEWS Nepalese rescuers evacuated more than 250 citizens from the flood zone using helicopters, Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah said in an address to citizens.

"Our rescuers have already rescued more than 250 citizens with the help of Nepalese army helicopters. Among those rescued, there are victims who were urgently taken to Kathmandu, where they began to receive medical care," he said.

According to the Prime Minister, immediately after receiving news of the tragedy, the government mobilized thousands of rescuers from the Nepalese army and police.

900 beds have been allocated for the victims in Kathmandu hospitals, and medical care is provided free of charge. Destroyed roads, bridges, power lines and water supply facilities will be restored as a matter of priority, displaced families will be resettled in safe places.

A powerful stream of water from the Chinese side gushed into the Bhote Koshi River on Wednesday morning, causing serious destruction in Rasuwa district. The authorities have declared a high-alert regime for settlements downstream.
The total death toll from the floods has reached 157, Ratopati reported, citing the Nepalese police.
