OREANDA-NEWS An agreement in principle was reached between Israel and Hamas at the talks in Qatar in the agreement on the Gaza Strip, The Times of Israel reported, citing Arab officials.
"Israel and Hamas agreed in principle on a deal to free the hostages on Monday evening," the newspaper writes.
Sources believe that the agreement will be announced on Wednesday or Thursday, it will be a joint statement by the United States, Qatar and Egypt, which mediated the negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
The delegations continue to work in Doha to discuss the details of the agreement. One of the main issues that remains to be resolved is the parameters of the Israeli army's withdrawal from Gaza. The mediators are waiting for a map from Israel indicating the zones where the army will be withdrawn.
According to the newspaper, the future special representative of the new American administration for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, on Saturday at a tense meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "put pressure on the prime minister to make compromises necessary to reach an agreement."
An Arab official told The Times of Israel that Witkoff had managed to "move" Netanyahu more in one meeting than the Biden administration had over the past year.
