OREANDA-NEWS   The Japanese government is considering strengthening sanctions against Russia after Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to the Kuril Islands. This is reported by the NHK TV channel.

It is claimed that in response to Putin's trip to Iturup Island, Tokyo is considering "strengthening sanctions against Russia, which Japan is introducing in cooperation with the international community."

Earlier, the Japanese Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Nikolai Nozdrev. The agency protested Putin's visit to the Kuril Islands, which Tokyo considers its "northern territories." According to Takaichi, this "hurts the feelings of the Japanese people and is categorically unacceptable."

Grigory Karasin, head of the Federation Council's International Affairs committee, stressed that Tokyo's protest was on duty. He noted that this has happened "not for the first dozen times."
