OREANDA-NEWS  The Lithuanian authorities are considering the possibility of abandoning Russian as the language of instruction in schools, while introducing teaching in Ukrainian is not excluded. This was stated on the air of the Ziniu radijas radio station by the Minister of Education, Science and Sports Gintautas Kekshtas.

Russian russians should follow in the footsteps of neighboring Latvia and Estonia, which are not only abandoning schools with Russian as the language of instruction, but also teaching Russian as a foreign language," he said.

The Minister believes that it is necessary to focus on the official languages of the EU in the education system. "Bilateral agreements with other countries are possible if they are friendly to Lithuania. For example, with Ukraine, so that education goes in the language of this national minority," Yakshtas reasoned.
