OREANDA-NEWS. Polish authorities intend to send an invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin to events on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Auschwitz by the Red Army. This was announced on the air of the Polish Radio by the press secretary of the President of the Republic Blaise Spychalsky.

"At the events organized by the museum in Auschwitz at the beginning of next year, an invitation for President Putin will be sent, since the liberation of the camp by Soviet troops is an indisputable fact of history", he said. “Here from our side there is a desire to cooperate”, Spychalsky added.

Memorial events will be held in Auschwitz on January 27, 2020 on the territory of the museum created on the site of the former concentration camp. Earlier, the museum management informed that they sent information to several dozens of states, including Russia, about the upcoming anniversary, inviting the leadership of different countries to make a decision on their own participation in memorable events.

In March, the Polish authorities decided not to invite Russia to the events marking the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War, which will take place in the republic on September 1. At the same time, Warsaw invited the EU countries, including Germany, the states of NATO and the Eastern Partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine) to these events. According to Spikhalsky, more than 30 countries have already confirmed their participation.

In Auschwitz-Birkenau, the fascists destroyed in the gas chambers and burned in the crematoriums over 1 million Jews, as well as tens of thousands of representatives of the Polish intelligentsia and Soviet prisoners of war. The concentration camp complex was liberated on January 27, 1945 by the Red Army. More than 200 Soviet soldiers and officers were killed in the battles for this area.
