OREANDA-NEWS  Demilitarization of the Zaporizhia NPP is an unacceptable scenario for Russia, as a result of which Ukrainian security forces would be able to seize the station, while the installation of a protection zone is permissible. This opinion was expressed by the chairman of the movement "We are together with Russia" Vladimir Rogov, commenting on the statement of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi.

On December 10, in an interview with Al Jazeera, Grossi said that, in his opinion, "the place where this station is located is extremely dangerous." Grossi informed that "he proposes to establish a protection zone around the station in negotiations with both the Ukrainian and Russian sides." This, he explained, is a complex concept, and "it is not related to negotiations on a ceasefire or on the demilitarization of the zone."

"This is a more realistic statement. Demilitarization of the NPP (translated into normal language - removal of protection from the nuclear power plant) is an unacceptable scenario for Russia, as a result of which the terrorists [of Kiev] could seize it," Rogov wrote on Wednesday in his Telegram channel.

On Tuesday, the head of the IAEA held a meeting in Paris with the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal, during which the parties discussed the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP and the organization of permanent agency missions at the Khmelnitsky, Rivne, South Ukrainian NPP, as well as in the Chernobyl zone. Following the talks, the IAEA issued a statement saying that Grossi and Shmygal had "made progress" in discussing the creation of a security zone around the NPP.
