OREANDA-NEWS. Stricter restrictions caused by the fight against the spread of coronavirus infection will come into force in several federal states on Monday, December 27. The measures agreed at the meeting of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz with the heads of the federal states will take effect in Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Other federal states will join the new restrictions on Tuesday.

So in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, cinemas, theaters, museums, zoos, swimming pools and other recreation areas are closed. In Brandenburg, at least until January 11, those who have been vaccinated against coronavirus and have had COVID-19 will be able to meet privately in groups of no more than 10 people. If someone in the family is not vaccinated against coronavirus, more serious restrictions continue to apply: only up to two people from another household can be invited to visit, not counting children under the age of 14. In Baden-Württemberg, a curfew is introduced in the catering sector: from 22:30 to 5 am. On New Year's Eve, the curfew does not begin until one o'clock in the morning.

Opponents of coronavirus restrictions have announced a mass mobilization. Demonstrations are planned on December 27 in several cities of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Brandenburg, as well as in Mannheim in Baden-Württemberg.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus infection rate in Germany continues to be high. The seven-day infection rate over the past day has risen from 220.7 to 222.7 cases per one hundred thousand people, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported. A week ago, this figure was 315.4 in Germany. In 24 hours, 13,908 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 virus infection were registered in the country. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that on weekends and holidays these figures are usually somewhat underestimated, since not all local health authorities transmit their data to RKI.

In general, during the entire pandemic in Germany, 7,005,289 people have already been infected with coronavirus, the number of deaths from the lung disease COVID-19 and its consequences increased by 69 per day and reached 110,433.
