OREANDA-NEWS   India intends to conclude the best possible trade agreement with the United States to ensure its advantage over competitors. This was stated by the Minister of Trade of this BRICS country Piyush Goyal. He was quoted by Reuters.

However, according to him, New Delhi will wait and see how the White House will act on tariffs.

The news came after Goyal held an unexpected meeting with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, which took place as part of a private visit by an American official to India.

Before that, US President Donald Trump warned partner countries against abandoning recently concluded trade agreements with the United States after the Supreme Court declared illegal his duties imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. When this happened, Trump announced the temporary imposition of a 10 percent duty on goods from all countries, including India, and promised to raise it to 15 percent.

According to analysts, India may continue to import Russian oil, as it has never signed any documents in which it would officially promise the United States to abandon these purchases.
