OREANDA-NEWS Game designer Will Wright told us what kind of hidden idea he laid in the popular game The Sims. He stated this in an interview with The New York Times (NYT).
Maxis Studio founder Will Wright spoke with reporters in honor of the reissue of the original parts of The Sims, a life simulator. According to him, his game was a satirical reflection of consumer society. The advertisements for household appliances in the game said that televisions and refrigerators could change lives. Wright noted that he had seen this in reality.
"You buy these things that are supposed to make you happy. But at some point they all start to break down," said the creator of The Sims. Will Wright called all the household appliances in the game that a player could surround his character with a "time bomb." If the TV or gas stove caught fire, a fire could occur, and this could destroy the character.
Wright also admitted that the game's developers deliberately made the Sims "dumb." He noticed that in the early version of The Sims, artificial intelligence (AI) was so smart that the player could only ruin the character's life with their actions. Therefore, the creators of the title deliberately lowered the level of AI to make the game more interesting.
Wright said he wanted to create a permanent sense of chaos. In this regard, for example, a player could receive life-threatening injuries even from the bite of a guinea pig infected with an unknown disease.
Earlier, Zen analysts said that more than half of Russians have played The Sims at least once. Most of the time, they started the game to cheer themselves up.
