OREANDA-NEWS  The European Union is experiencing a deep housing crisis — most of the population cannot afford comfortable housing. This was stated by European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jorgensen during a press conference in Barcelona, which was broadcast on the European Commission's website.

"We are in the epicenter of the housing crisis, there is no doubt about that. We see many cities where ordinary people — teachers, police officers, medical staff — cannot live in decent housing because they cannot find such housing with their salaries," Jorgensen said. According to him, the problem also affects young people who cannot start an independent life due to lack of housing.

The Commissioner added that the EC is working on a proposal to remedy the situation at the community level. The bill will be presented soon.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin said that it is possible to make housing more affordable for Russians by increasing urban development potential. He noted that now the availability of residential real estate raises questions.
