OREANDA-NEWS The European Development Bank has agreed to provide Kiev with a new loan. This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko.
A loan of 500 million euros from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is allocated for the purchase of gas by Kiev. This is the largest project for Ukraine and for the first time it is provided under the EU guarantee, without the state guarantee of Ukraine.
"This will allow Ukraine to better prepare for the heating season and provide Ukrainian homes with heat and light even in the most difficult days of winter," Sviridenko explained.
At the end of July, Ukraine signed the first agreement on the import of Azerbaijani gas through the Trans-Balkan corridor. According to the corporation's top manager, the gas purchased from SOCAR Group company SOCAR Energy Ukraine will be delivered via Bulgaria and Romania.
On July 10, the acting Prime Minister of the republic, Denis Shmygal, announced that Ukraine had received another billion euros in income from Russian assets frozen in European countries. The funds received were provided as financial assistance from European partners. Since the beginning of 2025, Kiev has received a total of over 18.5 billion euros from the European Union (EU) "at the expense of Russian frozen funds," Shmygal summed up.
