OREANDA-NEWS. Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas stated today while introducing the Estonian e-government and cyber security to the German cabinet that the introduction of e-services does not have to jeopardise privacy of people in any way.

According to Rõivas, the risks accompanying the use of Internet and digital solutions do not mean that the countries should discard developing the information society. “We can successfully mitigate these risks and, at the same time, keep developing the digital services,” Rõivas said. He emphasised that this approach has been one of the cornerstones of the development of the Estonian information society.

Rõivas participated in the field session of the German cabinet to Meseberg at the personal invitation of Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel to introduce the Estonian experience in e-government and cyber security arrangements with a presentation titled “Modern State and Cyber Security”.

Rõivas said during his talk that the state can enable the spread of digital solutions by creating a favourable legal environment and an infrastructure for the safe use of digital services. The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of ensuring cyber security: people and enterprises must be certain that their data is securely protected and all the necessary services function.

The Prime Minister expressed hope to the German ministers that practical cooperation between the countries will grow and this will boost the development of the European Digital Single Market. “The more countries do cooperate in cyber security, the more we will be able to rely on digital services,” Rõivas emphasised. According to the Prime Minister, cross-border digital services have an important potential in increasing the competiveness of Europe.

The two-day field session of the German cabinet focused on digitalisation, migration crisis, and the integration of refugees. Digitalising the German economy and public sector is one of the priorities of the current German government.
